You acknowledge that by providing your personal data to us and for any other named driver on the policy, you and any named drivers agree to its processing in the manners outlined within this notice.
Who we are
Slick is a trading name of Slick Cover Limited, which is an Appointed Representative of Movo Partnership Ltd. who are authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), authorisation number 823503. Registered Office: Movo House, 33 Green Lane, Chislehurst, BR7 6AG. Slick Cover Limited is underwritten by Liverpool Victoria Insurance Company Limited (“LVIC”) who are authorised by the FCA, authorisation number 202965. In this privacy notice, ‘we’, ‘us’, and ‘our’ refers to Slick.
What data do we collect?
In order for us to understand the level of insurance cover you require, to provide a quote and other services to you, and manage those services, we will ask you to provide your personal data to us.
The types of personal data that we collect include:
- General information such as your name, address, date of birth, marital status, UK residency years, driving licence number, the type of driving licence you have, your contact details including phone number and email address; we will also collect this for any named driver on the policy.
- Information about what and who you want to insure such as the vehicle and any named drivers on the policy.
- Your claims, motoring convictions, criminal convictions, County Court Judgements (CCJs) and credit history.
- Personal information that we receive through anti-fraud databases and sanctions lists.
- Any photographs that you send us in an event of an accident.
- Special categories of personal data such as your health and medical conditions which may be used to help us mange your policy should you or a third-party make a claim.
- Cookies when you visit our website – please visit our cookie policy for further information.
- Details of third parties in an event of a claim whether you are at fault or not.
- Financial information such as your credit or debit card, credit information received from credit reference agencies as part of affordability checks and bank account details to set up your policy.
How do we collect data?
The sources of information from which we collect data are:
- When you request a quote from us via our direct website or via a price comparison website.
- When you register a claim.
- From your previous insurer to confirm your No Claims Discount (NCD).
- When you purchase our products and services or those provided by our partners.
- When you make customer enquiries.
- When we require additional information from you for validation purposes for example, photo uploads of your NCD and driving licence.
- External organisations and databases such as credit reference agencies, the Motor Insurance Database, the Claims and Underwriting Exchange, anti-fraud databases, criminal conviction checks and the DVLA.
- Publicly available information such as social media, networking sites and electoral register.
- Records of phone calls, SMS notifications, live chats, emails and wallet notifications.
How is your data used?
We use your data in a number of ways, but not limited to:
- Processing your insurance quote to determine your eligibility for the product and return you a price using an automated decision.
- To identify and prevent fraud.
- Administering your policy including claims handling.
- Verifying your identity and credit scoring.
- For research, development purposes and statistical purposes to improve our products.
- Keeping you informed about our products and services, if you have opted in for such information.
Lawful reasons we process your data
- Performance of the contract – we use your personal information in order to provide you with an insurance quotation to help you decide whether Slick is right for you. This is achieved through the use of an automated decision to determine your eligibility and to calculate the price. If you then buy an insurance policy with us, your personal information will be used to enable us to fulfil our contractual obligations with administering your policy and dealing with any claims that you are involved in.
- Our legitimate interests – we process your personal information when it is our legitimate business interest to do so. These can be commercial or societal benefits and in order for us to process your data, we will always balance our interests against your own to ensure it is fair. The following processes rely on legitimate interest:
- Fraud detection and prevention
- Engaging and contacting you throughout the lifecycle of your policy to ensure you have a good experience as a Slick customer and that we are administering your policy as per your expectations
- Maintaining our business records, policy and claims history about you.
- To collect and recover money that is owed to us.
- Setting reserves for any claim that you make.
- Statistical analysis using your quote data (whether you accepted a policy or not) to refine our pricing models and our acceptance criteria to improve the accuracy of our premiums.
- Sharing data with selected third parties in order to add value and improve our products.
- Consent to marketing – if you’ve given us marketing permissions, we’ll sometimes contact you about relevant products or services. You can unsubscribe from emails or tell us to change your permissions anytime at support@slickcover.com. We try to process your changes within five days.
- Compliance with our legal obligations – to meet responsibilities we have to our regulators, tax officials, law enforcement and fraud prevention agencies.
Who do we share your personal information with?
We may share your personal information with:
- Our data enrichment provider – we share information concerning your request for a quote and your insurance policy with LexisNexis who help us to check your identity and evaluate your insurance risk. They do this by collecting data about you from public sources (such as the electoral register and insolvency service) and private databases (such as other insurers). - Innovation Group, who process and manage claims.
- Third-party organisations from whom we get and with whom we also share your data, for example the Motor Insurance Database, Claims and Underwriting Exchange and anti-fraud databases including the Motor Insurance Anti-fraud and Theft Register and the Insurance Fraud Register.
- With suppliers acting on our behalf, for example, our policy administrators, our claims suppliers such as loss adjustors, solicitors, private investigators, vehicle repairers or car hire providers.
- Government organisations such as our regulators, the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS), the police and Trading Standards.
- TrustPilot: we provide a limited amount of information (name, email address, mobile telephone number and policy number) to TrustPilot A/S (“TrustPilot”). As a data processor acting on our behalf, TrustPilot sends digital communications that include a link to a form where our customers can leave reviews and rate our service and products. The TrustPilot website uses cookies, which you can find information about at Trustpilot.com. Use of the TrustPilot website is subject to the TrustPilot terms and privacy policy, which you can find at trustpilot.com. You can opt out of receiving feedback communications from TrustPilot by contacting us at support@slickcover.com or by using the unsubscribe link in any TrustPilot email.
- Fraud prevention organisations and agencies such as Insurance Fraud Register; Claims and Underwriting Exchange (CUE) and the Motor Insurance Anti-Fraud and Theft Register.
- If we find you’ve given us false or inaccurate information we may pass your details to fraud prevention agencies. To prevent fraud and money laundering, we and other organisations, including law enforcement agencies, may also access and use information recorded by fraud prevention agencies, for example, when:
- Checking details on applications for credit, credit-related or other facilities.
- Managing credit and credit-related accounts or facilities and recovering debt.
- Checking details on proposals and claims for all types of insurance.
- Completing credit and fraud searches, such as a driving licence checks.
- Finance institutions to allow us to carry out a financial transaction in respect of your policy.
- Professional auditing bodies for auditing purposes.
- Third-party finance and debt collection management agencies through PremFina.
- Our capacity provider Liverpool Victoria Insurance Company Limited and our appointed representative Movo Partnership Ltd.
- Britannia Rescue for breakdown recovery.
- Allianz Legal for motor legal protection.
- Strategic Insurance Limited for personal accident upgrade, guaranteed car hire, excess protection and pothole insurance.
- Our reinsurers (and brokers of reinsurers) in connection with the normal operation of our business.
We will disclose information collected by Slick in the following circumstances:
- With our operational partners who provide the product and services to you.
- With our regulators or the police, if we are required by law to disclose the information.
How long do we keep your personal information for?
Your personal data will be kept for a seven-year period; any deviation on this is in order to provide you with the agreed product(s) or service(s). It will continue to be retained after any account, policy or service has been closed or otherwise come to an end in line with our legal and regulatory requirements, and for as long as you may legally bring claims against us.
Sending data outside of the UK
The personal information we and our carefully selected third parties collect from you may be transferred to, stored and processed outside the United Kingdom (UK). We or our service providers may use cloud-based computer systems (i.e. network of remote servers hosted on the internet, which process and store your information) to which foreign law enforcement agencies may have the power to require access. We will not transfer your information outside the UK unless it was to a country our information regulator has assessed as having adequate data protection laws, or we had taken all reasonable steps to ensure the firm has the necessary privacy and security controls in place to protect your information as if it were in the UK. Our contracts with these firms will detail the necessary requirements to ensure your information is protected. We will assess these firms’ security arrangements from time to time ensuring that they are only using your information as agreed.
Your rights and how to contact us
You have the right to:
- A copy of your personal data held by Slick and any data processors or controllers acting on our behalf.
- Have your data corrected if it is inaccurate or incomplete.
- Have your data deleted or removed if it is no longer necessary for the purposes for which it was collected and where there is no other valid legal ground to retain it.
- Restrict the processing of your personal data; this may only apply in certain circumstances.
- Withdraw any consent you have given in respect of your personal marketing data.
- Data portability – to retain and reuse your data in an electronic form for your own purposes or to request we pass the information to another organisation.
- Obtain human intervention, where you are subject to a decision based solely on automated processing, including profiling, which has a significant effect on you, to express your point of view and/or to contest the decision.
- Object where we’re processing your information on the grounds of it being in our legitimate interests to do so.

How to make a complaint
If you wish to raise a complaint on how we have handled your personal information, please send an email to dataprotection@slickcover.com or write to us using the address provided. We aim to respond in a reasonable time, normally 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our response or believe we are not processing your personal information in compliance with UK Data Protection laws, you may lodge a complaint to the Information Commissioner’s Office.
